MENTAL HEALTH
Counselling Program
OCDC is pleased to partner with Alberta Black Therapists Network to bring free counselling from various licensed therapists. These services provide formal, one hour, one-to-one counselling sessions in the form of short term intervention utilizing solution-focused therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy. Sessions are available online or in-person, pending COVID-19 recommendations.
Notice of Change in No Show/Late Cancellation Policy Effective February 1, 2023
Africa Centre prides itself in providing quality, culturally sensitive counselling and mental health care to African descent communities in Alberta. To ensure that the Counselling Clinic can continue to effectively provide FREE therapy to the community, a new policy regarding no-shows and late cancellations will be in effect:
1. ALL SESSIONS WILL REMAIN FREE. However, if a client does not show for an appointment or cancels less than 24 hours before an appointment, a $10 charge will be applied. Please note, it is considered a no-show if a client does not attend their session within 15 minutes of the scheduled session time.
2. Clients will have to input a valid form of payment (i.e debit card or credit card) on their OWL profile to book sessions but will NOT be charged for sessions unless there is a case of late cancellation or no-show.
3. To ensure a refund or avoid a no-show/late cancellation charge, clients can cancel or reschedule their appointments online or call the clinic line at 1-833-381-1242 at least 24 hours before the scheduled appointment.
Please note the clinic line is only operational Monday to Friday from 9am-5pm.
What is counselling?
Counselling is a process of talking about and working through your issues with a counsellor. The culturally trained counsellor helps you address your problems positively by clarifying the issues, exploring options, developing strategies, and increasing self-awareness. These services are offered at no cost to the client.
